Patricia met up with Suszanne Schwal in 2015r to talk Stone Island Crewneck Sweater Lavender about their escapades in linen. 12 months later, Suszanne popped simply by to check in in where we are in with things at TapRoot Fibre. She published a lovely blog post on her behalf website about TapRoot Fiber Lab.
Our seeds for this upcoming growing season arrived coming from Belgium. This year we planted five miles of Melina on Apr 29th, 2016. Patricia is working on acquiring a secondhand grubber/puller for harvesting this year so we aren’t trying to harvest 5 acres by hand.

I (Rhea) attended the actual Saltscapes Expo on Friday, 04 22nd, the biggest consumer expo east of Montreal in which celebrates everything in Ocean Canada. I introduced on our machines and linen production. I have been going to the Saltscapes Expo as being a participant for several years today and it was exciting to be on the other side of things. (put the link to saltscapes here)
I (Rhea) have been working each day at gettig bed linen processed as that we’ll have product on sale. I have been prototyping our long line linen products. I take the ‘waste’ from the scutching machine and method it into roving while using Belfast Mini Mill equipment. Legacy Lane, the fibre Mill within New Brunswick are willing to try out our short line linen roving through his or her spinning machine. We are excited to see their results and look toward hearing from them.
Our immediate need is to file for an online shop for revenue of the linen and also the machines.
Mike, the engineer, plus individuals from Timberttec are working on installing an integrated transfer system. This system may help move the flax between each appliance . Testing continues we’re working on improvements for your breaker, testing paint rollers and on the scutcher, the actual turbine blade bluntness We are awaiting the hackles for our hackling machine as they make their way through India. The coughing machine will brush the linen fibers to remove any outstanding shive, any knots along with short line linen (tow) fibres.

Signs of Spring now show. One Neighborhood Shared Agriculture season has ended, and another you’ve got begun.
We are carrying on with with seeding. Bunching onions, celeriac, him, and leeks are just among others vegetables starting off in trays in the garden greenhouse. In addition to our transplants, were direct seeding some vegetation (barley, peas and sweetcorn) and started the other planting of some vegetables (broccoli, green onions, and lettuces).
LinseyWoolsey (80% linen/20% made of woll) roving
Our strawberries ended up covered in straw for the winter months. Recently, the straw has been removed and substituted with row cover.
Our own vegetable storage is emptying out. We have been using, this time, to obtain some spring cleaning along with maintenance done across the farm yard.

A number of TapRoot Farms’ seasonal workers have learned to arrive. These guys have been working on the plantation since the beginning and are a significant part of the farm. Up to now, eight tunnels happen to be covered in plastic, with more going up daily. These tunnels will probably be full of spinach, spring turnip, radish, green onions, and Asian greens.
We are offering guided trips throughout the season. You may be a member or not, if you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to start to see the farm, this is it. Our own first walk has been Saturday, April 30th, at 1 pm hours. We will be hosting some other walks on August 20th and October Fifteenth. We invite that you come back throughout the year and discover how much the village has changed throughout the year.
Our flax crop has been seeded merely shy of A few acres.
